Pencil in time for fun
before you burn out in 2021.

Last year, in 2020, burnout was real. It was real because we did not expect to be hit with both the pandemic, social inequality issues and issues with the people we love at home… all at the same time.

Also, we did not foresee the after effect of being away from the office for this long. On the working side, its real-real: we have yet to heed the lessons we should have partook last year and instead we are now pushing ourselves to working harder and longer since we need not have to travel back and forth to the office without taking the much-needed brake from both the work hour and home-life.

What is the solution to all this? A pattern interrupt in the form of self-building. Last week, a friend of mine and I took to the wild and went for few hours to hike. This was in between projects that needed much attention, but we both knew that we could not pour from an empty cup.

The time for self-building (in contrast to team building) is important because this interrupt the pattern of constantly sprinting towards your work and home goals and gives you time to breathe again.

I know! But there is no time! But make time and schedule it in along with time to eat and sleep. Literally schedule these portions of your day in to give room for peace and time for reset.

The thing we realized is that once we came back from the refreshing hike, we were able to go hard in the paint again along with a renewed sense of vigor to get things done. At the same time, planning for our next outing, which gives us both something new to look forward to in the week. 2021 could be more fun, but you must schedule it in.
